Tip 1: Wachau - Melk (Symbol of Austria in Mini-Europe)
The oldest written reference to this small town - the gateway to
the Wachau valley along Danube - dates 831.
In 11th century
was
Melk a power centre of the Babenbergs
in Ostarichi
(Austria today). Stift Melk - a massive Benedictine monastery
was founded in the year 1089 on the site of earlier castle, in the
periode 1702 - 36 was made reconstuction in baroque style.
The most known parts of the Benedictine monastery are Marble
Hall, bibliotheca, outlook terrace and St. Peter and Paul
monastery church. The town hall in the town was founded in the
year 1575.
Region is also known for good wine.

Tip 2: Wachau - Krems
Krems belongs to the oldest and nicest towns in the Austria.
The oldest written reference to this Danube town in the Wachau
valley dates 995. There are prehistorical findings from the ice
time here, later settlement traces of the Teutons and Slavs.

Tip 3: Salzburg city
Salzburg with 150000 citizens is one of the smaler Austrian
towns but one of the most important in the tourism industry
- one of the most visited tourist destination in the country.
There are prehistorical findings from the Neolithic Age in the
area, later was probably a Celt camp here. The Romans
called the town Juvavum. On the beginning of the 8th
century St. Rupert after becoming bishop choosed Juvavum
of the site of his basilica and named the city Salzburg (Salt
Castle). Places to see: Salzburg Cathedral, Fortress
Hohensalzburg, Mozart´s birthplace, Getreidegasse, Palace
of Leopoldskron, Mirabell Palace, Neutor, Hellbrunn, ZOO.

Tip 4: Lake Neusiedl - the meeting place of different cultures
Excellent wind conditions and warm climate make Neusiedler
Lake top area for sailors, windsurfers and cyclists. Excellent
conditions for beach holidays with many leisure parks and
sports activities: bike rentals, boat rentals, golf, tennis, etc.
In winter it is also popular Nordic walking here. Cultural and
natural sightseeings at the Neusiedler See which belong to
UNESCO World Heritage: Ramsar wetland National Park
Neusiedler See - Seewinkel, Rust, Mörbisch, Oggau,
Donnerskirchen, Oslip, Purbach, Breitenbrunn, Winden am See,
Neusiedl am See, Jois, Weiden am See, St. Andrä am Zicksee,
Illmitz, Apetlon, Gols, Frauenkirchen, Podersdorf am See,
Pamgahen, Romans Quarry St. Margarethen, in the Hungary:

Tip 5: Eisenstadt - the capital of the federal state of Burgenland
Finds prove that
Eisenstadt was already populated in ancient
Halstatt period. Celts and the Romans built his settlements
here too, later came Germanic tribes, Huns, Lombards, Avars,
Bavarii. In the Annals 1118 it is a settlement as "castrum
ferreum" recorded and refers iron mining & trade in this area.
Today
Eisenstadt is (sometimes called "Haydn city") a beautiful
smaller city with a population of about 12000, which is always
worth a trip - the culture and history have high priority here.
Attractions: City Hall, Pestsäule, Franciscan church, Esterhazy
castle with Castle Park, Gloriette, Haydnmuseum, Bergkirche
with Haydnmausoleum, Pulverturm, Wehrkirche, synagogue.

Tip 6: Hallstat and Salzlammergut
Hallstat is a small village on the Halstätter See lake in the
Salzkammergut - a tourist region with 54 villages near Salzburg,
which spread out to Grimmning, Almtal, Vockla and Dachstein.
The archaeological finds (Mondsee culture & Halstatt culture)
prove that the area was already populated in the Neolithic
times. Good conditions for heath vacation. Whole holiday area
is also known as ski & snowboard world and cross-country
skiing world. The Salzkammergut resort has many gyms, spas,
wellness hotels, indoor pools, health spas, etc. Culinary
interesting region with many fish restaurants and cosy country
inns.

Tip 7: Graz -
the capital of the federal state of Styria
Graz with a population of 288000 is the second largest city in
Austria. At the heart of the city lies the Schlossberg hill - since
beginnig of the 12th century there was a fortress here. It
stands in the Guinness Book Of Records as the strongest
fortress ever since it has never been captured. Most of the Graz
sightseeings are to be found in the Old Town: Clock Tower built
in 1570, Grazer City crown (St. Giles Cathedral, Katharinerkirche,
Mausoluem, Seminary, Grazer Castle), Franciscan Church, City
Hall, Landhaus, Landeszeughaus with Museum of armor and
weapons, Saurau Palais, the Palais Herberstein with gallery,
Palais Khuenburg with city museum, Leechkirche, Karl-Franzes-
University. Other attractions: City Park, Murinsel, Kunsthaus,

Tip 8: Zell am See
Zell am See is a
well-known international spa and ski resort
situated 80 km from Salzburg. Together with its neighbour
Kaprun they form the "Europa Sportregion" which is one of the
most important
tourist centers in Austria. Besides skiing, the
region offers a diversity of other sport activities. In winter:
skating on the frozen lake, snow-rafting, sledging or nordic
walking; in summer you are offered a variety of water sports:
boat rental, water skiing, diving, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing,
fishing and rafting. Also 2 golf courses are here. You can enjoy
cycling or mountain biking here too.
The highest waterfalls in
Europe - Krimml
Waterfalls are only 55 km away, the
Grossglockner hill & Pasterze Glacier is also close.
There is also a spa- and sports centre in Zell am See. |

Tip 9: St. Poelten - an up-and-coming tourist city
St. Poelten with 51000 inhabitants is the capital of the federal
state of Lower Austria. NÖ Landesmuseum presents the rich
history of Lower Austria as a virtual museum.
Attractions: City Hall, Domkirche, Institut der Englischen
Fräulein, Franziskanerkirche,
Schloss Ochsenburg, Schloss
Pottenbrunn, Schloss Wasserburg, Riemerplatz, Herrenplatz,
State Theatre Lower Austria, the former synagogue.
Leisure: Stadtwald, Südpark, Hammer Park, Sparkassenpark
and recreation areas Naturlehrpfad Felsmühle, Panoramaweg
Kremserberg, Nadelbach, Brunnenfeld Süd, Ratzersdorfer Lake
and Viehofner lakes offer diverse recreational opportunities
and attractive walking and cycling paths. It is also known 3-day

Tip 10: Baden near Vienna

Baden is located 26 km south of Vienna. The warm sulphurous
springs have been known for 5000
years
and have formed the
economic basis of the health resort. In the year 1480
emperor
Friedriech III
granted the city rights to
Baden.
In K & K
times
Baden was also a popular resort and has nothing
lost
from its
charm and
flair at present. Healing water, culture, wine and
the
game
formed the city and still dominate the leisure activities in
the city.
